How to use Excel to CSV

What it does

Saves the sheets of an Excel file (.xlsx, .xls) as CSV files. Pick one sheet, or get every sheet as its own file.

Step by step

  1. Drop an Excel file onto the screen, or click to choose one. Once it opens, the sheets are read and the first rows are shown in a table.
  2. Under “Sheet”, pick the sheet to save. The first sheet that has values is already picked. With two or more sheets, you can also pick “All sheets (one file each)”.
  3. Under “Delimiter”, pick comma, semicolon or tab. It starts on comma.
  4. “UTF-8 BOM” starts on. While it is on, Excel opens the CSV with Korean text intact.
  5. Click “Convert to CSV”, then “Save”. With several sheets, “Save all” downloads them one after another.

Frequently asked questions

Korean text looks broken when I open the CSV in Excel.
Turn “UTF-8 BOM” on and convert again. The BOM mark at the start of the file tells Excel to read it as UTF-8. In programs that show a stray first character, turn the BOM off instead.
My file has several sheets. Can I convert them at once?
Under “Sheet”, pick “All sheets (one file each)”. One CSV file is made for each sheet that has values.
What comes out for cells with formulas?
The calculated value saved in the file, not the formula. It is the value Excel last saved, so a change made after the last save may not be included.
