How to use Word viewer
What it does
Shows a Word document (.docx) page by page, as it is laid out. You scroll up and down to read, and you can move between pages and change the zoom. It only reads: it doesn't edit the document or make a file.
Step by step
Drop a Word file (.docx) onto the screen, or click to choose one.
“Opening the document” shows until the file is open. It starts on “Fit width”.
Move between pages with the arrow buttons or the page number box. As you scroll, the page number follows the page you're on.
In the bar below, use “Zoom” to pick “Fit width” or a size from 50% to 200%, or click “Zoom in” and “Zoom out”.
On the right, “File” shows the page count and the file size. Under “What you can do with this file”, click “Word to text” to pull out the text.
Good to know
Complex layouts, text boxes, shapes and some fonts can look different from Word. A font this device doesn't have is swapped for a similar one, which can change lines and pages.
The page count follows the page breaks saved in the document. It can differ from what Word shows.
Charts and SmartArt are not drawn. “Good to know” tells you how many were left out. Tracked changes and comments are not shown.
Links in the document do not open when clicked. The document is blocked from loading outside addresses. The page stays white in dark mode too.
Old .doc files and password-protected files can't be opened. In Word, remove the password and save as .docx, then add that. Files are processed in your browser and are not uploaded to a server.
Frequently asked questions
Can it open .doc files?
No. .doc is an old file type that it can't open, and it tells you how to save the file instead. Open it in Word, choose Save As, save it as .docx, and add that.
It looks different from what I see in Word.
That can happen when the font isn't on this device, or when the document has many text boxes and shapes. The page count can differ from Word then too.
Can I open links in the document?
No. Links do not open when clicked, because the document is blocked from loading outside addresses.
