How to use HWPX converter
What it does
Takes the text, tables and pictures out of a Hangul document (.hwpx) and saves them as a Word file (.docx) or a text file (.txt). It extracts the content; it does not copy the page layout.
Step by step
Drop the HWPX file onto the screen, or click to choose it.
When the document is read, the extracted text appears in the box in the middle. Skim it to check the content.
Under “Output”, choose “Word (.docx)” or “Text (.txt)”. Word is the default.
Click “Convert to DOCX” (“Convert to text” for text).
Click “Save” to save it. The file name is the original name with “-converted” added.
Good to know
The Word file keeps paragraphs, bold, italic and underline, text size, paragraph alignment (left, center, right), tables (with merged cells) and pictures. Only PNG, JPG, GIF and BMP pictures are kept.
The text file keeps text only. A table becomes one line per row, with cells split by tabs.
Page size, margins, fonts, text colour, headers and footers, footnotes, shapes and equations are not kept. If this file had any of these, “Good to know” shows how many.
Text inside text boxes, table and picture captions, and pictures inside a group are kept. The shapes themselves and bullet symbols are not.
Password-protected HWPX files cannot be opened. A .hwp file opens in the HWP converter or the HWP viewer.
Files are processed in your browser and are not uploaded to a server.

Frequently asked questions
Can I convert .hwp files too?
Not in this tool. Use the HWP converter to save a .hwp as PDF or text, or the HWP viewer to read it.
The Word file looks different from the original.
Page setup, fonts, and headers and footers are not kept. The content comes across, so tidy the layout in Word.
What happens to tables?
In the Word file they stay tables, and merged cells are kept. Column widths are all split equally. In the text file, each row becomes one line and the cells are split by tabs.
