How to use Resize

What it does

Lower the resolution of a video, or set it to a size you choose, and save it as a new file. Pick 1080p, 720p, 480p or 360p, or type the width and the height yourself. The video is processed on your device and is not uploaded.

Step by step

  1. Drop a video file onto the page, or click to choose one.
  2. Check the size of the video under “Original resolution”.
  3. Under “New size”, choose 1080p, 720p, 480p, 360p or Custom. The default is 720p. The number is the height of the video, and the width follows the original aspect ratio.
  4. If you chose “Custom”, type pixel values into “Width” and “Height”. If “Keep aspect ratio” is on “Keep”, changing one side changes the other to match; on “Free”, you set each one separately. Values go from 2 to 16384 px.
  5. Check the “Expected resolution” and click “Resize”. When it finishes, use “Save” to download the file, or “Keep going” to pass it to another tool.

Frequently asked questions

Does the aspect ratio change?
1080p, 720p, 480p and 360p keep the original aspect ratio. Under “Custom”, setting “Keep aspect ratio” to “Free” can change it.
Does making it bigger improve the quality?
No. Going above the original size does not improve the quality and only makes the file bigger.
The original resolution says “Unknown”.
This means the browser couldn't read the size of the video. “Resize” can't be clicked then. Convert the video to a common format like MP4 or MOV and choose it again.
