How to use Voice recorder

What it does

Record your voice with a microphone and save it as a WAV or MP3 file. When you stop the recording, it is converted to the format you chose right away. The audio is processed on your device and is not uploaded.

Step by step

On the “Input” tab, choose the microphone to use under “Microphone”. It starts as “Default device”. You can pick from the list only when there are two or more microphones.
On the “Save” tab, choose WAV or MP3 under “Save as”. The default is WAV.
Click “Start recording”. If the browser asks to use the microphone, click Allow.
When you speak, the “Input level” bar moves. The recording time counts up as well.
Click “Recording · Stop”. When the conversion finishes, use “Save” to download the file.
To start over, click “Record again”. Recording again replaces the previous recording.

Good to know

The only permission needed is the microphone. If the browser is blocking it, a message appears. Click the lock icon at the left of the address bar, allow the microphone, then start again.
If another app is using the microphone, a message says it can't be used. Close that app, then start again.
WAV keeps full quality, but the file is larger. MP3 is saved at 192 kbps, and the converter (about 32 MB) is downloaded the first time.
If you change the save format after recording, you can save the same recording again with “Convert”.
The file name is “voice-recording” followed by the date and time, for example voice-recording_20261101_1423.wav.
In a browser that can't record, the message “This browser can't record” appears. Open the page in the latest Chrome, Edge or Safari.
