How to use Convert audio

What it does

Convert an audio file, or the sound of a video, to MP3, WAV, OGG, M4A or FLAC. If you choose a video, the picture is dropped and only the sound is saved to a file. The file is processed on your device and is not uploaded.

Step by step

Drop an audio or video file onto the page, or click to choose one.
On the “Format” tab, choose one of MP3, WAV, OGG, M4A or FLAC under “Convert to”. The default is MP3.
If you chose MP3, OGG or M4A, pick 128, 192 or 320 under “Quality (kbps)”. The default is 192.
Click “Convert”.
When it finishes, use “Save” to download the file. The sizes of the original and the result are shown together.

Good to know

“Quality (kbps)” appears only for MP3, OGG and M4A. Higher numbers sound clearer and make larger files.
WAV has no quality loss and makes large files. FLAC is lossless too, but it is stored compressed, so it is smaller than WAV. For these two, “Quality” on the “Result” tab shows “No loss”.
M4A is saved as AAC. OGG is saved as Vorbis, or as Opus if Vorbis isn't available.
If you extract the sound from a video that has no sound, the message “This video has no sound” appears.
If this device can't convert to MP3 or OGG, a message says so. Choose WAV or M4A instead.
The file name is the original name followed by “-converted”, for example song-converted.mp3.
The first time, the converter (about 32 MB) is downloaded. How long it takes depends on the length of the file and on your device.
